The whole nation today is observing the 26^th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer with zeal and enthusiasm after Pakistan successfully carried out first nuclear tests in Chaghai’s mountains on this day I 1998.

With the success of these tests, Pakistan joined the list of nations with the nuclear power.

It is pertinent to mention that after the successful testing, Pakistan became the seventh nation with nuclear power and first among the Muslim nations.

The detonations were a clear signal of Pakistan’s determination to defend its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as its commitment to maintaining a strategic equilibrium in South Asia.

On this significant day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani, and the military leadership extended their congratulations to the citizens.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed his pride in the Pakistani people, highlighting that the day represents a united national endeavor, surmounting what appeared to be an overwhelming obstacle, and marking a significant achievement in the nation’s defense prowess.

“May 28 is more than a simple remembrance; it represents the challenging yet extraordinary journey of our country towards securing a reliable minimum deterrence,” the prime minister noted on X.

The prime minister acknowledged that Nawaz Sharif, on this pivotal day in 1998, showed decisive leadership by withstanding intense pressures and temptations to declare Pakistan a nuclear-armed state.

“He also honored Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the architect of Pakistan’s nuclear initiative, for his visionary strategy and steadfast dedication to the mission,” the prime minister stated.

‘Significant Milestone’

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, along with the service chiefs, conveyed heartfelt congratulations to the populace on behalf of the military.

As per the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), this significant milestone celebrates the landmark success of Pakistan’s nuclear tests in 1998, which effectively established a credible minimum deterrence and rebalanced power dynamics in the region.

The statement highlighted that the military and the nation honor the relentless commitment and sacrifices of everyone involved in this extraordinary accomplishment, realized despite formidable challenges.

Youm-e-Takbeer: A Symbol of National Fortitude

Acting President Gilani, in his address, reaffirmed the commitment to strive for a world of peace and stability.

He remarked that Pakistan showcased its nuclear prowess and ascended to the league of nuclear states on this day, emphasizing that Youm-e-Takbeer is a reflection of the nation’s tenacity, resolute will, and dedication to sustaining regional tranquility and equilibrium.

He mentioned that Pakistan, as a conscientious nuclear nation, is dedicated to the amicable settlement of disputes.
