Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said that Up to 5 degrees Celsius above average temperatures are likely in Pakistan during this week.

As per the Met Office, high weight will persevere in the upper atmosphere in most parts of the country particularly in southern half. A westerly wave will likely enter western parts of the country on 10th May (evening/night). It will likely hold upper parts on 11th May.

Under the impact of this weather system, day temperatures will be 2-5°C above normal in Pakistan this week with rain-wind/thunderstorms returning the normality during the weekend.

Balochistan: Daytime temperatures are expected to be 03-05°C higher than normal from May 8th to May 10th. Rain, accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, is forecasted in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Qilla Saifullah, Kohlu, and Mastung on May 10th (evening/night) and May 11th. Additionally, windstorms are anticipated in Kharan, Chagi, and Panjgur during this period.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Daytime temperatures are projected to be 02-03°C above normal from May 8th to May 10th. Rain, wind, and thunderstorms are expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, and Kurram from May 10th (night) to May 12th (morning). Isolated hailstorms are also likely during this period.

Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir: Day temperatures are likely to remain 03-05°C above normal from 08th to 10th May. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) on 11th and 12th May.

Punjab/Islamabad: Daytime temperatures are projected to be 03-05°C higher than normal from May 8th to May 10th. Rain, accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, is anticipated in Murree, Galyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Pakpattan, and Sahiwal from May 10th night to May 12th. Similarly, in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Kot Addu, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Khanpur, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar, rain is expected on May 10th and May 11th. Isolated hailstorms are also forecasted during this period.

Sindh: Day temperatures are likely to remain 03-05°C above normal from 08th to 10th May. Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro and Sanghar on 10th (night) and 11th May.

Possible Impacts and advises:

Farmers are encouraged to regulate crop watering and wheat harvesting activities accordingly. The general public is advised to minimize unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight. Windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning may disrupt daily routines and pose risks to standing crops, as well as to loose structures such as electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels.
