ISLAMABAD: United States of America (USA) Ambassador Doland Blome met Opposition Leader in National Assembly and Central Secretary General Umar Ayoob Khan, here on Monday.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali, former NA Speaker Asad Qaisar and Central Information Secretary Rauf Hassan were also among attendees.
In a detailed discussion, the status of democracy and adherence to the rule of law in Pakistan was thoroughly examined. Key topics included fundamental human rights and the country’s economic landscape.

The discourse delved into instances of state encroachment on the voting rights of citizens, both overt and covert bans on basic political liberties, and unlawful administrative actions impeding freedom of speech and communication.

Among the focal points were the plight of the party’s founder, along with his wife, and the incarceration of numerous male and female activists on politically motivated grounds.

Additionally, the recent report of the US State Department highlighting human rights violations in Pakistan also came under discussion.

During the interaction, Umar Ayoob, the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, briefed the US ambassador on the political, economic, and constitutional challenges facing Pakistan.

He emphasized the country’s alarming departure from constitutional principles and the deteriorating state of law enforcement, which threatens economic stability.

Umar stressed that upholding basic rights, political freedoms, and the right to vote as enshrined in the Constitution is essential for maintaining political stability in the country.

Highlighting the longstanding economic ties between Pakistan and the US, Umar underscored America’s status as Pakistan’s foremost trading partner but underscored the indispensability of the rule of law for any meaningful economic progress.

Emphasizing the PTI’s commitment to fostering and broadening relations with the US based on mutual trust and reciprocal benefits, Umar affirmed the party’s eagerness for continued collaboration.
