Former President Dr. Arif Alvi asserted on Wednesday that PTI founder Imran Khan had declined an offer to leave the country and had committed to staying and confronting the consequences.

In a discussion with journalists, the former president alleged that incarcerated Imran Khan was being urged to “make a deal and depart the country.”

However, Arif Alvi stated that the PTI founder had refused the proposal and resolved not to depart the country “under any circumstances.”

He remarked that those plotting to convict Khan would ultimately fail.

Responding to a query regarding the possibility of dialogue, Alvi remarked that discussions would only occur with “stakeholders, not with non-stakeholders.”

He added that PTI founder had pledged to forgive everyone once he regains freedom.

Previously, former President Dr. Arif Alvi expressed his backing for PTI founder Imran Khan’s ‘contentious’ social media post regarding Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Addressing a lawyers’ convention, the former president stated that Imran Khan’s suggestion to study the Hamoodur Rahman Commission (HRC) report was not “treasonous,” criticizing the tendency to brand someone a traitor merely for reading a report.

Arif Alvi commended Hamoodur Rahman as an “upright judge” and highlighted that his son presently serves at the Federal Shariat Court. He underscored the necessity for stakeholders to come together to resolve issues, stating that until then, problems would persist. Arif Alvi also advocated for the release of Imran Khan and the restoration of his mandate.
