The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) announced a rise in electricity prices by Rs3.33 per unit due to fuel cost adjustments for April 2024.

This adjustment will be reflected solely in the electricity bills for June 2024, as per Nepra’s notification, and will not affect K-Electric consumers.

Previously, Nepra had increased electricity prices by Rs 3.76 per unit earlier in the month for the third quarterly fuel cost adjustment.

This decision is expected to impose an additional burden of over Rs40 billion on electricity consumers nationwide.

The government plans to recover this amount over the next three months – June, July, and August 2024. In June, consumers will see an additional charge of Rs1.90 per unit on their bills, while in July and August, an extra 93 paisas per unit will be levied.

These adjustments underscore the need for consumers to be mindful of their electricity usage and plan accordingly to manage their expenses effectively.
