Tax relief on solar prices will ease the transition to green energy for Pakistanis as the government announces import reliefs for solar panels in Budget 2024-25.

The PML-N-led government has introduced tax relief on solar panel imports. Budget documents indicate that this relief extends to the import of plants, machinery, related equipment, raw materials, and components used in the production of solar panels, inverters, and batteries to meet domestic needs and generate income. This measure aims to save valuable foreign exchange and boost the industry, ultimately helping to reduce emissions.

People earlier expected inverters subject to 18% sales tax. Chinese investors suggest imposing import duties on fully built-up solar panels to support local manufacturers.

Furthermore, the government has made no changes to net-metering policy following recent concerns.
