ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb on Thursday acquitted Sanam Javed in four cases, including one filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and granted bail in the remaining eight cases.

However, Justice Aurangzeb noticed the inappropriate language used by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javaid and sought assurance from her lawyer that such behavior would not recur. On which her lawyer assured the court that such attitude would not be adopted again.

Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq Ali apologized to the court on her behalf and assured that she would be more cautious in the future in response to Justice Aurangzeb’s remarks about her use of harsh and improper words.

Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, appearing before the court, mentioned that the Balochistan police were not insisting on obtaining a transit remand for Javaid. This refers to a new case filed against her in Balochistan under the Anti-Terrorism Act. “Sanam Javaid is free and can now return to her province,” he stated. The court then declared her arrest “illegal” and disposed of the plea.

Sanam Javaid has been involved in legal troubles for months, facing multiple arrests related to the May 9 riots that erupted following the arrest of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan in a graft case, which led to the vandalism of several military installations.

On Monday, Javaid received significant relief when the high court ordered her release and barred the police and other law enforcement agencies from arresting her until Thursday. This order came after her father petitioned the court against her immediate re-arrest following her release in the FIA case.

A day prior, she was transferred to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad on the orders of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. During today’s hearing, Javaid’s lawyer assured the court that his client would refrain from using inappropriate language in the future.

Javaid’s lawyer, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq Ali, told the media at the IHC that the attorney general had assured during their meeting that Javaid would not be arrested in any case in the country. He also revealed that the attorney general had stated in the IHC that the cases against Javaid in Balochistan and Islamabad would be withdrawn within two days.
