As Karachi residents endure another heatwave, relief may be in sight with monsoon rains expected to begin today, according to a private meteorological service.

The Met Office predicts heavy to moderate rainfall for Karachi, as a strong monsoon wind system is set to reach Sindh tonight. These showers may be accompanied by lightning and thunder.

A private meteorological service has indicated that a low-pressure system from central India is moving toward Gujarat, which is likely to bring rain to Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mithi, and other areas in Sindh tonight (Sunday). In Karachi, consistent rain is forecast from this evening through Tuesday evening, with the city potentially receiving 30-50 millimeters of rain, or even up to 10 millimeters in isolated heavy to moderate showers, possibly continuing until Thursday (August 1).

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has instructed all relevant departments to prepare for potential flooding and severe weather as monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea impact the upper parts of the country.

The NDMA has warned that the rainfall could cause landslides, mudslides, or falling boulders, potentially disrupting roads in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat, Murree, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

In Sindh and Balochistan, isolated heavy showers are expected from July 29 to July 31. In anticipation of the monsoon rains, the Sindh government has extended summer vacations for all public and private schools until August 14.
