School hours in Punjab will be extended after the summer vacation as the provincial government plans to implement two weekly holidays for students.

In Punjab, summer holidays started on June 1, 2024, and are scheduled to end on August 14, with schools reopening on August 15.

The provincial government has not yet announced any extension of the summer break for educational institutions in Punjab.

Students to Enjoy Two Weekly Offs After Vacation

Back in June, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat had said that Saturday has also been declared as weekly holiday by the government, adding that the schools will now remain closed for two days in a week [Saturday and Sunday].

He had said the decision has been taken to provide relief to teachers’ community in the province. “Teachers are serving the nation and it is our duty to take care of them”.

The education minister said that the decision regard two weekly holidays has been taken due to excessive load on teachers.

School Timings in Punjab from August 15

The minister mentioned that school hours from Monday to Friday will be extended to ensure that the decision of having two weekly holidays does not impact students’ education.

However, the new school timings have not yet been announced. At present, all government schools and most private schools have only one weekly holiday, with schools being closed on Sunday.
