The Punjab government is set to launch a Solar Panel Financing Scheme on August 14, which will allow citizens consuming up to 500 units of electricity to acquire solar panels through easy installments.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting on Saturday to review the scheme. Secretary Energy Naeem Rauf provided a comprehensive briefing on the initiative.

CM Maryam instructed that the scheme be simplified and necessary preparations completed for its launch. The Punjab government has already initiated a pilot project to test the scheme.

Details reveal that the performance and readings of installed solar panel systems will be monitored online via the Solar PV App. Under the scheme, households consuming up to 100 units of electricity per month will be eligible for free solar systems, with the government covering all costs, including the solar systems and their installation.

The government will provide free solar systems to households consuming up to 100 units of electricity per month. However, those involved in electricity theft, meter tampering, or other illegal activities will not be eligible for the scheme.

To check eligibility, citizens can send their bill reference number and CNIC number to 8800. Eligible families can register for the scheme by sending these details via SMS to 8800.

The data of families consuming up to 100 units per month will be sent to the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), which will verify the information and forward it to the Punjab Information Technology Board.
