The Sindh government has declared August 26 a public holiday for all public and private schools across Karachi and the province. This decision marks the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.), a significant day observed with deep religious devotion.

The announcement was made by the steering committee of the provincial education department, as stated in an official notification.

On this day, the Chehlum commemorates the end of a 40-day mourning period following the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

The observance will be marked by processions and religious ceremonies, including the display of Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah across various cities in Sindh. Tight security measures will be in place to ensure the safety of participants.

In light of these observances, all schools in Karachi and Sindh will remain closed on Monday, August 26, allowing students and staff to participate in or reflect upon the significance of this solemn occasion.
