The Government of Pakistan has announced a public holiday on Tuesday, 17th September 2024, to celebrate Eid Milad-un-Nabi, marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This significant Islamic event falls on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal 1446 Hijri.

A notification from the Cabinet Division confirmed that the holiday will be observed nationwide to honor the occasion. The announcement has sparked excitement across the country as people prepare to celebrate.

Moon Sighting for Rabi’ al-Awwal

The date for the 12th Rabi’ al-Awwal was determined after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting in Islamabad. The meeting, held two days prior and chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, included representatives from SUPARCO, the Meteorological Department, and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The sighting of the moon confirmed that Eid Milad-un-Nabi would be celebrated on 17th September.

With the date confirmed, preparations for Eid Milad-un-Nabi are underway across Pakistan. Streets are expected to be decorated with lights, while processions and special events in mosques will commemorate the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
