The Federal Minister of Energy announced a goal to cut electricity prices by Rs 8 to 10 per unit, aiming to eventually lower prices to under Rs 10 per unit nationwide.

During a press conference, Energy Minister Owais Leghari emphasized that this reduction would help stimulate industrial growth and provide relief to consumers, especially those in the middle and lower-middle classes.

He pointed out the government’s recent initiatives, including discussions with private Independent Power Producers (IPPs), restructuring loans with China, and reviewing agreements from the previous PTI government.

“We have saved the country Rs 411 billion by renegotiating power agreements,” Leghari stated, adding that future power plants would be assessed based on their capacity and production requirements.

Leghari also shared plans to reform the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) by 2025 and introduced a winter electricity usage program to help stabilize the power sector.

He credited the progress to teamwork and expressed gratitude to the Army Chief and other institutions for their support.
