ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has requested both the government and opposition to propose names for the formation of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP).

According to sources, Sadiq has asked each side to nominate two members. The JCP will include four members from the National Assembly and Senate, representing both the opposition and treasury.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has agreed to participate in the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, which oversees the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court, High Courts, and Sharia Court. The PTI’s Political Committee confirmed the decision, announcing that members from both legislative houses would be nominated.

The JCP’s extended mandate includes evaluating High Court judges’ performance and recommending qualified individuals for appointments. The 13-member commission will operate on a simple majority vote, with opposition members playing a key role in decision-making.

After the PTI Political Committee meeting, Salman Akram Raja informed the media that the nominated names would be disclosed after consulting with party founder Imran Khan.

Separately, PTI’s Salman Akram Raja recently filed a contempt of court petition in the Supreme Court against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for not implementing the reserved seats ruling. In the petition, Raja named ECP members as respondents, urging the Supreme Court to initiate contempt proceedings due to non-compliance with its verdict.

The Supreme Court originally ruled on July 12 in PTI’s favor for reserved seats, reversing the ECP’s decision from March 1, a ruling that was reinforced in a detailed judgment released last month.
