Lahore: The Punjab government has declared smog a disaster.

Under Section 3 of the Punjab National Climate Act 1958, smog has been officially called a disaster, and a notification has been issued by the Punjab government regarding this matter.

According to the notification, all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) in the province have been granted the powers of relief commissioners, allowing them to take necessary actions to control smog.

The notification states that there will be a ban on burning crop residues to combat smog, as well as prohibitions on burning solid waste, garbage, plastic bags, tires, and other materials.

Furthermore, the notification from the Punjab government indicates that the sale and use of substandard fuel will also be prohibited, and parking that causes traffic obstructions will be eliminated.

The notification further stated that the use of stone crushers without water has been prohibited, and industrial units will be banned from operating under emission control systems. Additionally, it will be ensured that encroachments on roads are eliminated.
