London: The head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has stated that politicians have played a major role in the weakening of democracy.

In a media talk in London, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that he is not in favor of imprisoning any politician and that throughout history, the constitution and democracy have been undermined. Politicians, he added, have compromised on democracy for their own interests.

He also mentioned that the UK should take action according to the law in the case of Khawaja Asif, and with the new law, every citizen of the country has been made suspicious.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman further stated that whether in the Republican or Democratic government in the United States, their policy for the world remains the same, and he emphasized that neither do we interfere in American politics, nor can we allow them to interfere in ours.

Earlier, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif encountered unsettling heckling and threats of a “knife attack” from an unidentified individual at a station in London, as shown in a video that has circulated widely on social media.

Sources close to the PML-N leader confirmed, stating that the video showing the defence minister being threatened and mistreated is “authentic.”

This is not the first instance of a Pakistani political figure facing harassment in the UK’s capital. Recently, former Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa’s car was targeted by PTI supporters at London’s Middle Temple.
