Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the importance of investing in youth to build strong and inclusive economies capable of tackling present and future global challenges.

While addressing the D-8 Summit in Cairo on Thursday, PM Shehbaz highlighted the vital role of youth and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in driving economic progress.

He noted that youth bring energy, innovation, and creativity, while SMEs are essential for generating jobs, fostering entrepreneurship, and encouraging innovation.

The Prime Minister urged D-8 member countries to focus on empowering young people and fostering entrepreneurship by creating environments that enable small businesses to flourish.

He stated that with over 60% of Pakistan’s population under 30, the country has immense potential for growth and innovation.

However, to unlock this potential, it is crucial to provide access to skills, opportunities, and financial resources.

PM Shehbaz called the summit an ideal platform for D-8 nations to exchange best practices, collaborate on resources, and develop cross-border initiatives to support youth and SMEs.

He also outlined Pakistan’s efforts to advance socio-economic growth through its flagship youth programme, which aims to enhance education, create jobs, and empower young people to become entrepreneurs.

Additionally, he highlighted Pakistan’s significant freelance workforce and ongoing investments in IT training to prepare the youth for the digital economy.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of improving transport connectivity among D-8 member states to create effective trade routes and reliable supply chains.

On international issues, PM Shehbaz called for a ceasefire in Gaza, stating that it is essential for peace and stability in the region and beyond.

He also welcomed Azerbaijan as the newest member of the D-8 group, further strengthening its potential for economic collaboration.
