The Upper Kohistan administration announced on Friday that anti-polio drops had been successfully administered to children in the district’s snowbound regions.

“Our vaccination teams have reached snow-covered areas as part of the ongoing campaign, administering polio drops to 681 out of the 763 targeted children,” Upper Kohistan Deputy Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan told.

He stated that a total of 34,296 children had been vaccinated across the district during the drive.

The polio vaccination campaign, which began on February 3 and is set to conclude on February 8, including a catch-up day, has successfully met its targets, he added.

Given the district’s mountainous terrain, 158 mobile vaccination teams were deployed to ensure coverage.

“For the snowbound areas, we established 11 dedicated teams, all of whom completed their task successfully,” Khan noted.

He highlighted that no cases of vaccine refusal were reported, as local residents fully cooperated with vaccinators, many of whom had to travel to remote villages on foot.

Despite harsh winter conditions, the teams, primarily consisting of public sector workers, swiftly reached the designated areas to administer vaccines.

“Even in the most challenging terrains, our mobile teams successfully accessed targeted locations,” Khan said, confirming the conclusion of the anti-polio drive in the snow-covered areas of Gabral, Karang, Kareen, Seo, Bariyar, and Jalkot.

The deputy commissioner also assured that foolproof security arrangements had been made to ensure the safety of vaccination teams throughout the campaign.
