NEOC issues advisory for heavy rain, winds, and thunderstorms

The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) has issued a weather advisory, warning that a strong westerly wave will impact several regions of Pakistan from February 24 to March 1.

The system is expected to bring severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, strong winds, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and snowfall in northern and western parts of the country.

Islamabad, Upper Punjab, Pothohar Region, Central & Southern/Northeastern Punjab: Likely to experience rain, strong winds, thunderstorms, and possible snowfall or hailstorms. There is also a risk of flash floods in vulnerable areas due to heavy rainfall.

Balochistan: Expected to receive rain, winds, and thunderstorms, with snowfall over hills in the western, northwestern, and northern areas. Some locations may face flash flooding.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): Forecasts indicate rain, winds, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and snowfall in upper and western regions, particularly in Malakand and Hazara Divisions. The risk of flash floods and landslides is high in northern KP due to heavy rain.

Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) & Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK): Expect rain, winds, thunderstorms, and hailstorms, with snowfall over higher altitudes. These conditions may disrupt travel and daily activities.

Sindh: The province is expected to have mostly cold and dry weather during this period.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with authorities to ensure a swift response.

Authorities have issued warnings about heavy snowfall in Murree, Galliyat, and northern areas, which may cause travel disruptions.

The NDMA urges the public to download the “Pak NDMA Alert App” to stay updated on weather conditions before traveling.
