PTA starts issuing licenses to VPN service providers

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has started giving licenses to Virtual Private Network (VPN) service providers to help businesses use them legally.

A VPN creates a secure and private connection between your device and a remote server, acting like a hidden tunnel that protects your online activities from being tracked.

According to PTA, two companies have already received licenses after applying. This step is meant to improve online security, privacy, and regulatory compliance for businesses.

PTA says this move will help organizations stay connected securely and responsibly.

More people in Pakistan have started using VPNs, especially after the government banned X (formerly Twitter).

Last month, PTA reported that heavy VPN usage was slowing down the internet across the country. The increased demand has put pressure on bandwidth, making internet speeds slower.

PTA has sent a report to the Ministry of IT, recommending an upgrade in bandwidth to handle growing internet needs.
