The controversial Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendments of 2025 has been challenged in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

A citizen has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, arguing that the recent changes infringe on fundamental human rights and contradict the Constitution. The petition specifically claims that some provisions of PECA violate the fundamental right to freedom of expression and calls for the court to evaluate their alignment with human rights.

The petition names the President, Speaker of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Senate, and Secretary of Law as the respondents in the case.

The PECA Amendments of 2025 were enforced in Pakistan after being approved by President Asif Ali Zarari. After the amendments passed through both the Senate and National Assembly, journalists across the country held protests, urging the government to reconsider the controversial law.
