Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced a special bus service for rural women on Saturday.

The provincial government has approved the launch of a dedicated transport service connecting tehsils to district headquarters, with an inter-village transport system also under consideration.

Additionally, a phased plan to introduce a mass transit system with 25 buses for remote districts is being reviewed.

While presiding over a meeting on Tuesday, the chief minister instructed officials to develop a comprehensive transportation plan for rural women, including fare subsidies for female passengers.

She emphasized the importance of a modern and efficient transport system tailored to women in villages, recognizing the challenges they face in daily commuting.

“It is distressing to see rural women travel in uncomfortable conditions. A well-structured transport system will enhance their confidence and benefit students and female patients,” she stated.
