Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the government is focusing on bringing down electricity prices to give relief to the public, even more so than reducing petrol prices, despite the ongoing decline in global oil rates, according to Express News.

During a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the prime minister stated that the goal is to provide cheaper electricity across the country and that more reductions in power tariffs are planned in the coming months.

“Efforts are ongoing to bring down electricity prices further. As petroleum prices fall in the global market, we will once again focus on reducing electricity tariffs rather than petrol,” he said. The prime minister stressed that a reduction in per unit electricity cost would positively impact all sectors of the economy.

“A cut in electricity prices will benefit the nation in every field. We are striving for further reductions and hope to see even better results in the coming months,” he added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the government has launched several initiatives to boost the maritime sector, which he called vital for the country’s economic growth. According to an official statement, he mentioned that the current government has introduced a number of reforms to support this important sector.

He also appreciated the Maritime Task Force for their policy suggestions, calling their work commendable and highlighting the importance of maritime resources for global development.

Speaking about the overall economy, the prime minister added that his government is making sincere efforts to pass on the benefits of falling global oil prices to the people of Pakistan.

He noted that a recent drop in electricity prices would provide “substantial relief to the people” and help boost economic activity.

“We have achieved macroeconomic stability and the decline in the power tariffs will lead the economy towards growth and competitiveness,” he added.
