Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.

Pakistan and Iran held a meeting where both sides had a meaningful discussion about the regional security situation and the challenges they face.

According to the military’s media wing, ISPR, they also reviewed the border security arrangements between the two countries to improve coordination.

Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir stressed that Pakistan and Iran are close neighbors with strong historical, cultural, and religious ties. Both countries agreed to keep working together to strengthen cooperation and support peace in the region.

The Iranian Foreign Minister praised Pakistan’s efforts to maintain regional peace and stability. Earlier in the day, he also met with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to talk about regional issues, especially the rising tensions between Pakistan and India after the Pahalgam incident.

President Zardari welcomed the Iranian foreign minister and underlined the need for Pakistan and Iran to work together for peace and development in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan has acted responsibly in all situations and rejected any baseless accusations. He offered to allow an international investigation into the incident to uncover the truth. He added that India is using false claims to distract from the real issue, which is Kashmir, calling it the root cause of instability in South Asia.

The two sides also discussed the situation in Gaza and strongly condemned the ongoing atrocities and human rights violations by Israeli forces in Gaza and the West Bank.
