ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to achieving sustainable peace and stability in South Asia.

He met with Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), at the Prime Minister’s House today.

During the meeting, the prime minister extended his warm wishes to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, President of the UAE, and thanked the UAE for its unwavering support to Pakistan, highlighting the historic, deep-rooted, and fraternal ties between the two nations.

The prime minister cited Pakistan’s enormous sacrifices—90,000 casualties and over USD 152 billion in economic losses—as evidence of its ongoing battle against terrorism originating from its western front. He added that India’s recent actions and aggressive posture were diverting Pakistan’s focus from its counter-terrorism efforts.

PM Shehbaz Sharif categorically rejected India’s baseless accusations and criticized its desperate attempts to link Pakistan to the Pahalgam incident without any evidence.

He clarified that Pakistan had no involvement in the incident and emphasized his offer to conduct a credible, transparent, and neutral international investigation. He added that Pakistan was actively engaging with friendly countries to present its stance on the ongoing crisis.

The prime minister emphasized that his government was focused on consolidating the hard-earned economic gains achieved over the past fifteen months, made possible with the support of friendly countries like the UAE. He assured that Pakistan would never take any action that could jeopardize regional peace and security.

The prime minister urged brotherly countries, including the UAE, to press India to de-escalate and defuse tensions. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in South Asia. The UAE Ambassador thanked the prime minister for sharing Pakistan’s position and assured him that the UAE would work closely with Pakistan to uphold regional peace and security.
