The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted the onset of rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Karachi starting this afternoon today (June 27).

The Met Office has said that the spell of on-and-off rain in Karachi is likely to continue until Sunday, with heavier showers expected tomorrow and the day after. They also said the second phase of the monsoon season will start on July 5, bringing more spells of rain throughout July.

Right now, sea breezes in the city are completely stopped. A day earlier, Gulshan-e-Hadeed saw the highest rainfall at 17 mm, followed by 13.4 mm on University Road and 12 mm at PAF Faisal Base.

Yesterday’s heavy rain caused more than 340 K-Electric feeders to trip, which disrupted the power supply in many areas. Electricity was cut off in places like Gulistan-e-Johar, Scheme 33, Gulshan-e-Muammar, and parts of Korangi, Bin Qasim, Orangi Town, Defence Phase VI, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Baldia Town, and Surjani Town.

The light rain threw the city’s power system into chaos, with K-Electric reporting over 340 feeders tripping. Karachi saw light to heavy showers Thursday night in different areas. Many neighborhoods including Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Memon Goth, Shah Latif Town, Razzaqabad, Bhens Colony, Saddar, Steel Town, Pipri, Port Qasim, Ghaffar Phatak and nearby localities received rain.
