NEPRA announces reduction in Electricity Tariff
ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) reduced electricity prices under the monthly fuel adjustment, a news source reported.
According to a notification issued here, K-Electric consumers will receive a reduction of Rs 4.03 per unit, while consumers in the rest of the country will see a decrease of 5 paisas per unit.
Power distribution companies will apply the reduction, part of the monthly fuel adjustment, to electricity bills for July.
The price cut for K-Electric consumers is based on the monthly fuel adjustment for April 2025, while the adjustment for May 2025 has reduced electricity rates across the rest of Pakistan.
K-Electric had requested a reduction of Rs 4.69 per unit, but NEPRA approved a cut of Rs 4.03 per unit—Rs 0.66 less than the requested amount.
NEPRA concluded its hearing on K-Electric’s request for a Rs 4.69 per unit relief for Karachi consumers on June 30.
KE stated that it had highlighted adjustments related to part load, degradation curves, and startup costs in line with the generation tariff determination for its power plants after June 2023. It requested NEPRA to allow recovery of these costs from the negative fuel cost variation to avoid burdening consumers at a later stage.
“Fuel charge adjustments are incurred by utilities due to global variations in fuel prices used to generate electricity, and the changes in generation mix. These costs are reflected in customer bills following NEPRA’s scrutiny and approval. Customers also benefit from negative FCA in their bills when global fuel prices decrease.”
