Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to enforce the fixed retail price of sugar at Rs173 per kilogram across the country. Chairing a high-level meeting on sugar prices, the Prime Minister emphasized that the agreement between the government and the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) must be strictly followed.

According to the agreement, the ex-mill price of sugar is set at Rs165 per kilogram, while the retail price must not exceed Rs173 per kilogram. The Prime Minister made it clear that any violation of these rates would result in swift and strict legal action.

“No one will be allowed to exploit the public economically,” said Shehbaz Sharif, urging authorities to take all possible measures to protect consumers and maintain price stability.

Officials briefed the Prime Minister on the current availability and pricing of sugar, informing him that action is underway against those creating artificial shortages. A crackdown on hoarders has also been intensified to prevent market manipulation.

PM Shehbaz instructed all relevant departments to ensure sugar remains widely available at regulated prices, reaffirming the government’s commitment to providing relief to the public.
