In Punjab, the government has decided to give one lakh rupees in cash to those who convert their petrol motorbikes into electric ones.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb made this announcement, adding that Punjab’s first smog guns will be unveiled to the media tomorrow. Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, she said switching lights to LED will earn carbon green credits.

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has launched a tree plantation campaign. “Plant for Pakistan” is part of the Chief Minister of Punjab’s vision to increase the province’s green cover through urban forests. She also said that people can call 1399 to get a plant delivered to their home by the PHA. This plant is a gift from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to the citizens of Lahore.

Maryam Aurangzeb further said that 300,000 trees will be planted around the Ring Road. It is the responsibility of Lahore’s citizens to plant as many trees as possible. The more trees there are, the better the Air Quality Index will become. She noted that smog has been a problem in Lahore for the past 10 years, but under the Chief Minister’s direction, efforts are being made to control it. Seven air quality monitors have already been installed in the Punjab Air Quality System.
