NDMA’s NEOC issues rain alert for South Punjab
More heavy rains are expected in Karachi and parts of Sindh on Wednesday night and the next two days with occasional gaps.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that a seasonal low is present over central Balochistan, with strong moist winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal entering Pakistan. A westerly wave is also affecting the country.
Under these weather conditions, Karachi and several districts of Sindh, including Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mithi, Thatta, Hyderabad, Badin, Dadu, Khairpur, Nausharo Feroze, Larkana, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, and Mirpur Khas, are expected to receive more intermittent heavy rains from Tuesday night over the next two days.
The PMD has warned that torrential rains may lead to urban flooding in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, and Jamshoro between August 19 and August 22.
Karachi’s maximum temperature is likely to remain between 38°C and 40°C on Wednesday and 39°C to 41°C on Thursday. In Hyderabad, temperatures are expected to range from 37°C to 39°C on Wednesday and 38°C to 40°C on Thursday.
Over the last 24 hours, rain and thunderstorms with scattered heavy showers hit Karachi and several parts of Sindh. The downpour in Karachi brought the city to a halt, causing urban flooding, power outages, and severe traffic jams.

In Karachi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 39°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 85 percent.
In Hyderabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 38°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 89 percent.
