Authorities have announced that board exams for Class 5 and Class 8 students in government schools across Rawalpindi will begin in 2026.

According to the schedule, admission forms for the exams will be collected from November 3 to 15, 2025. The Class 5 exams will start on February 9, 2026, while Class 8 exams will take place from February 16 to 24. Results are expected to be announced on March 31.

The Punjab Education Curriculum Training and Assessment Authority (PECTA) will organize the exams, taking over from the Punjab Examination Commission. A spokesperson explained that this step is meant to get students used to board-style exams before moving into higher classes.

However, teacher unions have strongly opposed the decision, calling it a failed experiment that has already been tried twice before.

Leaders Muhammad Shafiq Bhaluwalia and Basharat Iqbal Raja said that excluding private schools from the plan will increase the burden on public school students. They also warned that many children, especially girls, could drop out of school if they fail the Class 8 exam.
