ISLAMABAD: Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, Ali Nasir Rizvi, has extended the deadline for getting driving licenses by one week, giving citizens until October 7 instead of October 1.

The IG said that after the new deadline, strict action will be taken against anyone driving without a valid license. Offenders could face vehicle confiscation, legal cases, and even arrest. He explained that this step aims to improve traffic discipline and reduce road accidents. Citizens have been urged to obtain their licenses on time to avoid legal trouble.

To make the process easier, the traffic police have opened additional counters and introduced online facilities for license applications.

Islamabad traffic police have already tightened enforcement since May this year. They have imposed heavier fines and stronger penalties for violations. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Zeeshan Haider said drivers involved in serious violations will face heavy fines and may also be taken into custody.

He added that vehicles driven without licenses or permits, especially by underage drivers, will be impounded. Lane violations, one-wheeling, and overloading will also attract strict penalties.

CTO Haider stressed that driving without a valid license will not be tolerated. He said police are also cracking down on illegal parking and urged citizens to follow traffic laws for safe and smooth travel in the capital.
