Mayor Murtaza Wahab has expressed serious concern over the constant delays and public hardships caused by the Green Line and Red Line projects in Karachi.

According to reports, he urged the Pakistan International Development Company Limited (PIDCL) to share a clear and final completion timeline for both projects. He stressed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) must be satisfied with its progress and timely completion.

Wahab pointed out that a No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued back in 2017 has still not been fully implemented, which is creating major inconvenience for the public. He warned that if work continues at the current slow pace, the projects might not be completed even by 2035.

He also called for involving local leadership to ensure timely completion. Highlighting past issues, Wahab said the Green Line project had earlier faced hurdles at Nagin Chorangi and KDA Chorangi, while the Red Line’s construction on University Road is currently causing problems for commuters.

Wahab admitted that the Red Line delays have been an embarrassment for him. “May Allah help us complete this project soon,” he said, adding that he was told it may take two more years to finish. He mentioned that Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh’s transport minister, is working hard to speed up the Red Line project.

Separately, Wahab shared that KMC has become the first local council in Pakistan to digitize its salary system. He revealed that 101 employees were found receiving double salaries, and legal action will be taken against them.
