Sindh Govt launches workers’ welfare card for Labour Community
KARACHI: The Sindh government has launched major welfare projects for industrial workers through the newly introduced Workers’ Welfare Card.
According to Secretary of Labour Rafiq Qureshi, the card will provide workers with accident health insurance of up to Rs. 700,000, along with other benefits such as 10,000 e-motorcycles and sewing machines. He said this step would open a “new and brighter chapter” in the lives of laborers.
Sindh has become the first province in Pakistan to offer accident health insurance of this scale, with treatment available in more than 270 hospitals across the country.
Qureshi highlighted that workers are the backbone of the national economy. To support them, the government will distribute 10,000 e-motorcycles to women and minority workers. This initiative, he added, will not only improve their lives but also help reduce environmental pollution. Sewing machines will also be given to women workers to strengthen their financial independence.
He explained that with the new Welfare Card, workers will no longer have to stand in long queues to access facilities like marriage grants and death grants.
Qureshi also warned industries against exploiting labourers, making it clear that strict action would be taken against those who fail to register workers. He urged labourers to learn about their rights and ensure they are properly registered in the welfare system.
