CM Maryam Nawaz distributes flood cards among Okara families
OKARA: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz distributed Flood Cards in Okara on Monday, officially launching the provincial government’s rehabilitation program for flood victims, according to news.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony in Depalpur, Maryam Nawaz said, “Nawaz Sharif’s daughter has come to fulfill her promise.” She assured that every affected family would receive their rightful share, adding that they truly deserve even more support.
Calling the recent floods the most devastating in Punjab’s history, the chief minister said that the government has now started full-scale rehabilitation work. “I will not rest until every affected person returns home,” she promised.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the Punjab government’s funds belong to the people and will be spent solely on their welfare. “This is not charity—it’s the people’s right. We are only returning what we owe them,” she said, pledging full transparency and zero tolerance for corruption in the process.
She further said that there would be no discrimination between cities or individuals. “No one will be allowed to exploit the people of Punjab under my watch,” she stated.
Maryam Nawaz also shared that 70% of the flood damage survey has been completed, and compensation payments have already started even before the survey’s completion. Around 72 complaint camps have been set up to assist those whose names are missing from the relief lists.
Each affected family will receive Rs50,000 immediately through cheques and ATM cards, while the remaining payments can be withdrawn later. So far, over 71,000 bank accounts have been opened for flood-hit families across Punjab.
