Karachi: The newly introduced E-Challan System in Karachi saw a major enforcement drive on its very first day, with traffic fines amounting to over Rs12.5 million issued within just six hours of the system’s launch.

According to data released by the Karachi Traffic Police, a total of 2,662 challans (tickets) were issued during this short period for various traffic violations captured through the city’s advanced monitoring system.

The report revealed that 419 challans were issued for overspeeding, 1,535 for not wearing seat belts, 166 for signal violations (running red lights), and 507 for riding motorcycles without helmets. Additionally, 4 challans were issued for stop line violations, 4 for wrong-way driving on one-way streets, and 7 for tinted windows.

Other offenses included 5 challans for wrong parking, 32 for mobile phone use while driving, 5 for illegal parking, 5 for no-parking violations, and 3 for general wrong-way driving.

Traffic officials stated that the launch of the E-Challan System marks a significant step toward digital enforcement and improved road safety in Karachi. The system uses modern surveillance cameras and automatic detection to record violations in real time, with fines directly sent to vehicle owners.

Authorities emphasized that the initiative aims to encourage responsible driving habits and ensure greater compliance with traffic regulations across the city.

The Karachi Traffic Police have urged citizens to follow traffic laws and cooperate with enforcement efforts, stating that public compliance will be key to the system’s long-term success.
