Afghan forces on Saturday opened unprovoked fire at multiple locations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, prompting a strong and immediate response from the Pakistan Army, security sources said.

According to sources, Afghan forces launched attacks on border posts located in Angoor Adda, Bajaur, Kurram, Dir, Chitral, and Baramcha in Balochistan.

Pakistan Army troops, already on high alert, responded swiftly and effectively, engaging Afghan positions in a strong counter-offensive that lasted several hours.

Sources claimed that multiple Afghan border posts were destroyed and several Afghan soldiers and militants were killed during the exchange. They added that Taliban fighters abandoned several positions and retreated, leaving behind casualties.

The sources also pointed out that the cross-border aggression occurred at the same time as Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, was visiting India.
