Pakistan, Afghanistan conclude first round of Doha talks
The first round of Doha talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan has concluded, with Pakistan declaring that attacks from Afghan soil are unacceptable. During the discussions, Pakistan made it clear that the presence of banned militant groups in Afghanistan cannot be tolerated.
According to diplomatic sources, Pakistan is focusing on a single-point agenda — the cross-border infiltration of terrorist groups. The second round of talks is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning.
The Pakistani delegation, led by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, arrived in Doha carrying evidence related to the terrorist activities of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
During the talks, Pakistan presented lists and evidence of terrorists currently operating from Afghan territory. Earlier, the Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed that the delegation, under the leadership of the defence minister, would engage in talks with the Afghan Taliban in Qatar.
The spokesperson said the main objective of these discussions is to reach a consensus on measures to prevent cross-border terrorism. He added that detailed discussions with Afghanistan are expected during the talks, stressing that Pakistan does not seek tension but is committed to finding a peaceful solution for regional peace and stability.
The negotiations between the delegations of Pakistan and Afghanistan are being hosted by Qatar’s Intelligence Chief, Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Khalifa.
Pakistan’s delegation is being led by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, while Afghanistan’s side is headed by Defence Minister Mullah Yaqoob. Afghan Intelligence Chief Abdul Haq Wasiq is also part of the Afghan delegation, while Pakistani security officials are assisting their defence minister in the discussions.
