Pakistan, Ethiopia sign agreement to strengthen Defence, Aviation ties
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Ethiopia have agreed to strengthen cooperation in defence and aviation to deepen their bilateral ties further.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Ethiopia’s Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary, Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, and Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, in Islamabad on Monday.
During the meeting, Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula briefed the minister about the recent inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). He stated that the project was founded on the principles of fair and reasonable water use, aiming to promote regional integration without harming other countries.
The Ethiopian envoy also highlighted his country’s progress in the aviation sector and showed interest in expanding flight operations to Pakistan beyond the current Karachi route.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif praised Ethiopia’s leadership and commended the efforts of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed for driving socio-economic growth in the country. He also acknowledged Ethiopia’s role in maintaining peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, assuring that Pakistan fully supports these efforts.
