Pakistan’s major Counter-Terrorism breakthrough: Security forces eliminate TTP’s Deputy Chief, Qari Amjad
In a major counter-terrorism success, Pakistan’s security forces have killed Qari Amjad, also known as Mufti Hazrat, Mufti Muzahim, and Mufti Hazrat Deroji, the Naib Ameer (Deputy Chief) of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP/FAK). The high-precision Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) was carried out late last night in Bajaur, marking a decisive blow to the militant group’s leadership.
Born on April 17, 1979, in Samar Bagh, Lower Dir, Qari Amjad had long been a key figure within the TTP’s hierarchy. He was residing in Dangam, Kunar, Afghanistan, and had recently crossed into Bajaur two weeks ago under direct orders from TTP chief Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud. Pakistani intelligence tracked his movement and launched a precise operation to eliminate him.
Known by several aliases, Mufti Hazrat Deroji, Mufti Muzahim, Mufti Amjad, and Mufti Hazrat Ali — Qari Amjad had a reputation as one of the most ruthless militant commanders operating in Pakistan’s northwest.
He was officially designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) by the United States on March 25, 2023, and served as the Deputy Ameer of TTP alongside Omran Khalid Khurasani and Molvi Faqir Muhammad.
Qari Amjad directly supervised the TTP’s explosives and drone (quadcopter) squads, introducing new terror tactics in Pakistan’s border regions. He planned and executed multiple suicide bombings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the former FATA areas, targeting both security convoys and civilian installations.
He was infamous for his attacks on girls’ schools, orchestrating the burning and destruction of education facilities, which became a chilling hallmark of his extremist ideology.
Qari Amjad also trained recruits for cross-border infiltration, ambushes, and quadcopter-based bomb attacks on border outposts. His drone teams were responsible for dropping explosives on security posts, introducing a dangerous new dimension to militant operations.
The elimination of Qari Amjad, the No. 2 in the TTP hierarchy, represents a major blow to the organization’s command and control network. His death is expected to disrupt coordination between the group’s cells in Bajaur, Swat, and North Waziristan, and significantly weaken TTP’s operational capacity in the northwest.
The operation underscores Pakistan’s intelligence-led counter-terrorism strategy and demonstrates the state’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism.
With this successful operation, Pakistan has not only removed one of the most notorious terrorist masterminds but also reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling all networks that threaten national peace and stability.
