The International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) on Tuesday awarded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif an Honorary PhD in Philosophy for Leadership and Governance, recognizing his strong leadership and contributions to national development.

The International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (ISTAC) on IIUM’s Kuala Lumpur campus hosted the special convocation ceremony. The event was led by the university’s Constitutional Head, Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Prime Minister Shehbaz is currently on a three-day official visit to Malaysia at the invitation of his counterpart, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. During his visit, he held delegation-level talks and addressed an investment conference.

In his speech, Shehbaz Sharif described the honorary degree as a “great privilege and honor” and expressed his pride in associating with an institution that promotes the integration of knowledge, faith, and ethics. Reflecting on his long career, he said that whether as Punjab Chief Minister or now as Prime Minister, he has always served the people with sincerity and dedication.

Expressing gratitude to IIUM, Shehbaz Sharif said he hoped this honor would help strengthen academic ties between Pakistan and Malaysia. He emphasized that true leaders must treat leadership as a sacred responsibility and exercise it with honesty, fairness, and accountability.
