KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari has called Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to Karachi to address the rising tensions between Sindh and Punjab. The political atmosphere remains heated, fueled by fiery statements from both sides, especially in the aftermath of the recent floods.

According to official sources, President Zardari spoke with Minister Naqvi over the phone and asked him to reach Karachi immediately for consultations on the issue.

Earlier in the day, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif expressed support for his daughter, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, amid the ongoing dispute between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Punjab government.

Sources revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Nawaz Sharif and suggested that if Maryam Nawaz tones down her remarks, the PPP might also step back from harsh criticism. However, Nawaz Sharif reportedly stood by his daughter, saying, “Maryam’s statements reflect the sentiments of the people of Punjab. Her remarks are a reaction to the PPP’s unnecessary criticism.”

Following Nawaz Sharif’s comments, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon held a strongly worded press conference criticizing the Punjab chief minister, further escalating the rift between the two political allies.
