Islamabad: The final draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment has been completed following successful negotiations between the government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), confirmed Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar.

According to the minister, all pending changes have been incorporated and the draft has now been sent for printing. Earlier, reports suggested that there were still two points of disagreement between the two sides, but consensus was finally achieved, paving the way for the amendment to be presented in Parliament.

Sources said the PML-N delegation included Ishaq Dar, Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Anusha Rahman, while the PPP delegation comprised Sherry Rehman, Farooq Naek, Naveed Qamar, and Murtaza Wahab. The negotiations, held at the chamber of the Federal Law Minister, concluded successfully after extensive discussions.

Before the announcement, Azam Nazeer Tarar told the media that “Parliament is lively, there is no deadlock, and we have the required numbers for passage of the amendment. Consultations are ongoing, and voting will take place only once the required strength is confirmed.”

Meanwhile, senior lawyer Faisal Siddiqi has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, urging the formation of a full court to review the constitutional amendment.

According to government sources, the numbers game has been completed. The government has reportedly secured the support of three opposition members, including one senator, a JUI-F member, and one PTI member, with claims that a female PTI member may also vote in favor of the amendment.

On the opposition side, a joint parliamentary committee meeting is scheduled for today, to be chaired by Mehmood Khan Achakzai. The meeting will be attended by Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Barrister Ali Zafar, and other members.

The opposition committee is expected to discuss the 27th Constitutional Amendment, formulate a future strategy, and decide on parliamentary and external action plans.
