BEIJING: China has officially launched its most advanced aircraft carrier, Fujian, marking a major step in its military modernization. President Xi Jinping attended the launch ceremony on Wednesday in the southern province of Hainan.

This is China’s third aircraft carrier and the first to feature an advanced electromagnetic catapult system, allowing fighter jets to take off faster and more efficiently.

The launch of Fujian highlights Beijing’s growing military strength, making China the world’s largest navy by number of vessels, a development seen as a warning sign for the United States.

According to Chinese state media, Fujian represents a significant milestone in the country’s naval progress. The warship can launch three different types of aircraft and strike targets from greater distances thanks to its cutting-edge flight deck and catapult technology.

With these features, Fujian surpasses China’s previous two carriers, Liaoning and Shandong, in capability and power.

State media also reported that President Xi personally approved the adoption of the electromagnetic catapult system, making China one of the few nations in the world besides the US to possess such advanced naval technology.
