The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board is facing criticism for giving promotions through favoritism instead of merit.

According to reports, officers are being rewarded while qualified and deserving officials are being sidelined.

Sources reveal that promotions have been granted to unqualified officers in violation of merit and official procedures, raising serious concerns about transparency within the department.

It has been alleged that the seniority list was deliberately altered to benefit favored individuals, with officers holding irrelevant degrees — including in Computer, Industrial Electronics, and Chemical Engineering — being included in the list of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

The engineers’ community has strongly protested against these violations, stating that the disregard for merit and rules is damaging the reputation of the institution. Sources further claim that influential figures intervened to secure promotions for their preferred officers.
