New York: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, has strongly condemned India’s unilateral announcement to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a blatant violation of international law and treaty obligations.

In his address to the UN Security Council, Ambassador Iftikhar stated that India’s move poses a serious threat to regional stability and peace. He warned that such actions could escalate tensions in South Asia and expose millions of people in the region to severe water and environmental security risks.

The Pakistani envoy emphasized that India’s unilateral decision should alarm the international community, as it undermines global treaties and weakens respect for international norms.

Ambassador Iftikhar further noted that the 2025 ruling by the International Court of Arbitration reaffirmed the legal validity of the Indus Waters Treaty, proving that India’s position lacks any legal basis.

Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to environmental restoration, sustainable development, and global cooperation, he urged the international community to uphold the sanctity of international agreements and ensure that no country is allowed to act above the law.
