ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Monday approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill with 64 votes in favour. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the bill in the Upper House for final approval.

The Senate passed all 59 clauses of the amendment, marking a major step in the legislative process. The opposition parties, however, boycotted the voting process.

Senator Saifullah Abro from the PTI and Senator Ahmed Khan from JUI-F voted in favour of the amendment, showing rare cross-party support.

Before voting, the House was divided into two sections. Senators supporting the bill went to the government lobby to sign in favour, while those opposing it moved to the opposition lobby. After the bill was presented, the doors of the Senate hall were closed, and the chairman ordered the bells to ring for 2 minutes to begin the final voting process.

The final division process began with senators voting, confirming the 27th Amendment’s passage in the Senate.
