• A New York appeals court has maintained disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 rape and sex assault conviction.
• In a unanimous decision issued on Thursday, the court dismissed Weinstein’s appeal in his New York sex crimes case.
• The appellate panel of five judges dismissed Weinstein’s allegations that he was denied a fair trial.

The judge made mistakes, including as allowing the jury to hear information of uncharged sexual assaults from other accusers.

“[W]e reject defendant’s claims and uphold the conviction in all aspects,” the court wrote in its 45-page decision.

“We see no justification for decreasing the sentence,” the court concluded. “We have studied defendant’s remaining arguments and deem them unavailing.”

Weinstein, 70, was sentenced to 23 years in jail in March 2020 for raping an aspiring actress and committing a criminal sexual act by sexually assaulting a TV and film production worker.

He is presently imprisoned in California, awaiting trial on separate rape and sexual assault accusations brought by Los Angeles prosecutors against five women.

Following investigations by The New York Times and The New Yorker, more than 80 women accused the notorious Hollywood film mogul of sexual misconduct in October 2017.

The allegations triggered the #MeToo movement, which culminated to Weinstein being charged with rape and sexual assault by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office in the spring of 2018.
