Islamabad IG, DC could not be removed despite ECP order

Despite clear orders of the Election Commission of Pakistan, the Inspector General (IG) and Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Islamabad could not be removed from their posts.

The Election Commission’s authority appears to have weakened in its efforts to facilitate the transfer of officers, essential for maintaining transparency in the upcoming elections.

ECP had taken action by issuing two letters, dated October 24th and 26th, explicitly instructing the Secretary Establishment to execute the transfers of the two entities promptly.

Surprisingly, even after a lapse of ten days since the issuance of these orders, IG Islamabad Nasir Akbar Khan and DC Irfan Nawaz Memon are yet to be replaced.

This delay has triggered growing concerns within political circles about the feasibility of conducting transparent elections with these officers in their current positions.
