LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Pervaiz Elahi retained his post after taking a vote of confidence in the Punjab Assembly (PA) last night (Wednesday).

The members of the provincial assembly showed their trust in him and Elahi got a trust vote from 186 MPAs.

Meanwhile, the opposition boycotted the session and tore the agenda copies.

The development came after the LHC remarked that the Governor of Punjab can ask the CM to take the vote of confidence adding that the CM Punjab must be given sufficient time to take the vote.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had been alleging before the process that they have completed the count for the vote and CM would be retaining the slot.

PTI MPAs Mian Aslam Iqbal and Raja Basharat submitted the resolution for the voting.

During the session, strict security arrangements were made keeping the situation in view and the CM managed to remain victorious despite the tactics of the federal government.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah while boycotting the session and rejecting the vote count said that the attendance was not complete and the PTI has been falsely claiming the count. “Some of the treasury bench members were not in the country and we will provide the relevant documents in the court tomorrow (Thursday).”
